Originally from Chicago, Illinois, Jillian Smiley attended Blackburn College in Carlinville before transferring to Northern Illinois University in Dekalb to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Art. Jillian concentrated on using her skills in order to explore different mediums such as printmaking, sculpture, painting and drawing while working hard to improve her skills. Although she faced a variety of challenges throughout her academic career, she decided to focus more on exploring drawing with different ideas. She believes art is an extension of oneself, so she decided to take care of herself first in order to maintain her sense of creativity over the years. She hopes to be able to explore her own identity throughout her life as she explores her work in the future. Jillian is set on graduating in December 2022 and hopes to eventually find her path to her own career through exploration after graduation.
