Artist Statement
During my time as an artist at NIU, I’ve created compositions using my past classes to explore different ideas throughout my academic career. I would use my time to improve my drawing skills and learn new ways of compositions in order to portray my illustrations more effectively. I’ve explored different mediums and techniques to help me get out of my comfort zone when it was necessary for improvement. I’ve considered my artworks to be more focused on an illustrative portrayal to provoke a sense of meaning behind my ideas.

My artworks consist a mixture of portraits and landscapes, and the sizes varies from each piece. The mediums I’ve experimented within my works are oil painting, charcoal, dry pastels, serigraphy printing, ink and markers. The ideas are inspired by different influences of my life such as sources of entertainment and written prompts from different assignments. Since the assignments had a little bit of freedom of what I could portray, I decided that some of my work would have been influenced by my life experiences and memories throughout my learning experience.
My goal throughout my work is to create a physical form of my vision so my audience can see what I observe throughout my life and inside my own mind. I want to be able to express my interests while also creating them as visually accurate to my own observations as much as possible. I’ve not only wanted to create my artwork to show my observations, but I want to use my work as an outlet to express myself and my own feelings. I hope to improve my work in the future, so I will be able to create different illustrations and experiment with other techniques in order to find something that can inspire me to be more creative throughout my life.
